I remember the day I gave my heart to the Lord Jesus. I had no clue what was to come in the future! I figured once you prayed and proclaimed Jesus Lord of your Heart and believed that the Father raised Him from the dead, that was all there was to it.. I found out soon enough that there is so much more to Christianity. I found out first and foremost that Christianity is truly centered around a actual personal relationship with Christ. Similar to those relations that we experience with our spouses or others that we love and adore, yet even more important. Our relationship development with Christ is contingent upon obedience to Gods Word. Not just the parts we like to read that make us feel good, but every single Word from Genesis to Revelations. Years ago, I couldn't figure out why certain promises in the Bible didn't seem to be working for me. I remember thinking for hours and inquiring of God as to why I would see others bearing fruit for their works, yet not in my own life. Especially when it came to giving. That's the topic I want to deal with this week.
I hear people say all the time that they feel like their giving isn't working in their favor. There are many factors in giving. Too often, people give to certain ministries or churches without educating themselves Biblically. The end result often is money that was wasted with no return. Some of you reading this are all ready thinking to yourselves, " I don't see it as a waste ". I appreciate your intent and heart in that thought process, but keep reading with a open heart. Soon you will see why I am saying this. I didn't know for years the true Biblical principals of giving until I educated myself instead of taking the "Pastors" word for it. There are too many ministries and men who call themselves Pastors in this world that are truly robbing people of their blessing and return in giving by simply not teaching their congregations the whole truth about giving.
Giving to Good Soil is Absolute to see a Harvest!
Giving to a church or ministry that isn't good soil will result in no return and frustration.
This is explained by the Master Himself in Matthew 13. Lets take a look.
Matthew 13 (NKJV)The Parable of the Sower
1 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Here we see Jesus teaching us that we are the Sower. The seed in this passage is our giving,
( Offerings, tithe, Alms, etc. ) Please understand that there is a vast difference between offerings and Tithe, but for this weeks lesson we are simply going to examine the reason for giving to good soil ( I.E. ministries that are rooted and teaching the actual Word of God ) . We will talk about the Tithe as well at the end of this weeks blog.
You'll notice that in Verse 4, it says some seed fell by the wayside and the birds came and devoured it. This is important. What Jesus is telling us here is that our seed ( finances ) are often wasted when we don't take the time to educate ourselves with the Word of God when it comes to giving. The birds ( Devil ) comes and steals our seed and blessing because of lack of knowledge . My People are Destroyed for a lack of knowledge ( Hosea 4:6 )
This is explained in the 18th-19th verse of this chapter.
18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.
Now lets look at Verse 5-6. 5.Some ( Seed, Finances ) fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.
The most important part to catch here is when Jesus said " because they had no root ". This is absolutely crucial. Too often people give with truly good intentions, yet because they have no root ( No time tested experience and knowledge of the Word of God ), their seed has no harvest or return. This person is the type of person who doesn't have the patience to wait for their harvest. This person gives with good intentions, yet when trials and tribulations come, they buckle under pressure and give place to the devil with anger and frustrations. Thus resulting in sin and their seed goes to waste because they refused to be steadfast and trust God through tribulations. Jesus explains this very well in Verses 20-22.
20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
NOW.. LETS LOOK AT THE SOWER WHO SOWED IN GOOD SOIL!! We see this in verses 8-9. This seed ( finance ) produces a harvest ( return ) because it was sown into good soil! In other words, it was given to a ministry that would actually use the gift ( seed ) as a tool for preaching the un-compromised Word of God! You can see here as well that some a hundred, some sixty and some thirty on the return. This is the percentage of the return that was given to good soil! For example:
IF you gave $20 to a ministry of good soil, your return at thirty fold would be $600 return!
If you gave $20 to a ministry of good soil, your return at sixty fold would be $1200 return!
If you gave $20 to a ministry of good soil, your return at a hundred fold would be $2000 Return!
This is the exchange rate of seed we learn here in this passage. Some people get so mad when I teach this principle because they have been taught religiously for so long that Christians should be poor and live in poverty. These same people are going to be very disappointed when they get to heaven and realize that poverty is nowhere to be found! Poverty is a curse. The devil would want nothing more to see people struggle financially! Satan knows that if we struggle with our finances, stress and turmoil are sure to be in the midst of it all. Let's see how Jesus explains this in Verse 23.
23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
Never Forget.. with what measure you give, you shall receive! So be a cheerful Giver and a generous giver as long as the soil is good for Harvest!!
Luke 6:38 KJV
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
In conclusion.. it is well when we understand how to make certain that our giving works!! I realized years ago that I was never seeing a return on my giving. Yet, when I asked my pastor at the time why that was, he told me that I shouldn't expect a return. WOW, what a lie from the pits of hell. He told me that finances had no importance in Christianity. I then proceeded to ask him why he receives offerings then? Of course, he didn't like the fact that I was catching him in his hypocrisy. So, he simply did what any bad soil preacher would do, he ignored my questions and he certainly didn't teach me anything the Word of God had to say about giving. My story all too often is the same for others. People give for years and yet never learn that they are entitled to a return when their giving is in line with the Word of God! There are so many other passages in the Word of God that teach us about giving and what we can expect God to bless us with in return!! Another example of this is with our tithe. God Himself even gives us permission to test him with our giving! Lets take a look..
Malachi 3:10 (KJV)10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
You'll notice the Lord says " prove me now... if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing!!! Even to the point that there shall not be enough room to receive it!
Hallelujah! What a awesome promise from our Lord! Here we can see that when we are faithful in the giving of our Tithe, God will pour out a blessing that we cannot even comprehend! This comes in all kinds of blessings! Spiritually , Physically, and Financially!
People often pray for healing in their physical bodies, yet don't see a healing because they are not Tithing. You don't hear this taught often , but the Word speaks for itself. Obedience to Gods Word is absolutely crucial to our receiving from God!
Obedience to Gods Word results in Blessings!
Disobedience to Gods Word results in lack and Curses.
James explained this perfectly in James Chapter 1.
1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
You'll notice that James tells us here that if we have doubt in our hearts, we are double minded. In other words, if we are obedient to some of Gods Word, but not ALL of Gods Word, we are unstable and double minded. You'll also notice that he said we should NOT suppose that we will receive ANYTHING from the Lord if we are double minded or disobedient. Don't let the devil steal from you! Be wise and obedient to the Lord and His Word! You work hard for your money. Don't let your giving be a waste. Obedience is KEY!!
I will challenge you to really examine your giving this week. Do you give to good soil?? Are you doing everything in your power to be obedient to Gods Word? If your ready to see a Harvest in your finances, you have to be able to answer these questions with absolute confidence! I hope and pray that you meditate on this lesson this week and you find victory with your giving!!! Bless you and may the Lord keep you until next week.
